Dr. Darrel L. Williams

Dr. Darrel L. Williams is a Co-I primarily interested in activities related to forest remote sensing research; he also provides assistance with FED project management. He currently serves as Head of the Biospheric Sciences Branch at NASA/GSFC. Dr. Williams was responsible for coordinating the field and airborne measurements campaigns during Phase I of FED (in conjunction with Dr. Ranson) and conducted research activities pertaining to developing a better understanding of the transfer of radiation through forest canopies, with special emphasis on spruce forests. He also served as Principal Investigator for the most recent phase of the FED project. Dr. Williams has been employed as a Physical Scientist in the Biospheric Sciences Branch since 1975. He has been actively involved in remote sensing research since 1973, with the majority of his work involved with the development of enhanced, quantitative techniques for assessing forest canopy conditions. He is currently Project Scientist for Landsat 7. He served as Assistant Project Scientist for Landsat- 4 and 5 ('78 - '83), and during CY'90, served as Deputy Project Scientist for EOS.
