Dr. John Weishampel
Dr. John Weishampel is a Co-I and has the primary responsibility for the development of spatially-explicit gap models that operate at tree-to-tree and plot-to-plot (10m resolution) scales to reproduce forest stands (1-10 ha). These models generate 3-dimensional forest structure data that can be fed into radar backscatter or optical reflectance/absorbance models. Spatial patterns generated by these models are corroborated with those found in remotely sensed imagery over the northern latitude forests. He collaborates with other investigators in merging the forest models with the soils and radiative energetics models in the integrative FED Modeling system and is involved in the spatial analysis of field and remotely-sensed data. Dr. Weishampel received his Ph. D. degree from the Environmental Sciences Department at UVA. Recently he was National Research Council Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Biospheric Sciences Branch at GSFC. He is currently on the faculty of Biology Department at Central Florida University in Orlando.
