Dr. Guoqing Sun
Dr. Guoqing Sun is a Co-I and has the primary responsibility for multi-dimensional canopy microwave backscatter modeling. Dr. Sun received his B.S. degree in physics from the University of Science and Technology of China, M.S. degree in remote sensing from Nanjing University, China, and Ph.D. degree in geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a dissertation "Radar backscatter modeling of coniferous forest canopies." He has been actively involved in remote sensing since 1979, and devoted major efforts to the development of forest radar backscatter models since 1984, while participating in SIR-B and SIR-C research. He has developed radar backscatter models for continuous and discontinuous canopies, and for spatially explicit three-dimensional forest scenes. These models are used to investigate the effects of forest structure on radar backscatter and SAR image textures.
